I was wondering why I was drawn to it. Ah yes!
It's a human attempt to put form into nature, a whimsical form but form nevertheless. Ever done that in your business or workplace - or just in your own life??
I've been thinking a lot about logos, business names, ways of defining what one is up to. It's an important topic for me right now, and for a few other people I know, how to be satisfied with a particular logo that captures the essence of what you are up to in a way that communicates to just about everyone you ask. And finding a domain name that sounds good, edgy, memorable, friendly, inspiring, intelligent, relevant....that isn't already in use. More than that, one that isn't bought up by someone who isn't using it and who doesn't reply to email requests.
What can be learned from the rabbit? It certainly stands out! How was it created? Either the gardener-artist had a bright idea and went for it, submitting a blobby sort of shape cluster of bushes to the pruning years for several seasons until, hey presto, like a magic trick, a rabbit!. Or the gardener artist took a look at what was there in nature, saw essence of rabbit and clipped away to reveal it. I like to think it was the latter. If so, the message I could draw out from this is: find a business identity by looking closely at the nature of your business. then bring out something from what you see.
Now I come to think about it, that's how I did the painting I use on my website logo. I painted the snow scene, building up the depths of blue shadow. Then I saw where the figure might be in the landscape and brought out what was there in my imagination by adding a little more colour until what I could half-see became fully present. Someone was lifting up their arms in joy as they look forward into the unknown beauty of the snowy place ahead. There's a freshness and purity about snow and I'm reluctant to let go of it till I come up with something better, even though so many people seem to go for uplifted-arm-type images for coaching websites and similar.
That's given me an idea for my business identity!!! get some colours out and doodle. Crayons? Paints. Ripped out magazine images put together in a collage. Hmmm. Perhaps that's what `I should do before I get near a website and logo designer. Then at the very least I'll have some vague colour moods to show them for a starting point.
